Wagler's Viper Mating
The video shows a male and female Wagler's viper that were born and have been kept in captivity for more than 8 years. Copulation occured during daytime and lasted many hours. Here, just a brief episode is documented.
Note the rhythmic bending of the tail by the male viper. Male vipers frequently try to mate in presence of a female, coiling their tales around the female's one. However, most attempts are in vain. Only insertion of the hemipenis into the cloaca of the female accompanied by these these rhythmic movements indicate real copulation.
